LEADERSHIP
Brittany Parker
Founder, Artistic Director
Brittany (she/her) is a Seattle/Bellingham based Choreographer, Instructor, and Performer of dance and movement. Growing up in Chicago, Florida and Idaho, Brittany moved to Seattle in 2012 after dual enrolling in The University of Idaho’s Dance program for four years throughout high school. She quickly dove into performing weekly in shows at Julia's on Broadway, and spent a decade performing, producing and choreographing new works within their rotation of shows. Within the those years, Brittany was also a member of 3rd Shift Dance Company under the direction of Xaviera Vandermay, grew her practice as a specialty acro instructor around the greater Seattle area, and began teaching Contemporary and Lyrical classes at Westlake Dance Center, where you can currently take class from her. In 2019, with the camaraderie of her closest dance peers Brittany formed and founded Coalescence Dance Company. A Seattle based Jazz/Contemporary focused collective of dancers who are currently at the tail end of their Fourth Season. They are currently in rehearsal for their expanded 20 minute work premiering at Seattle International Dance Festival in June 2023. Pulling influence from her background in competitive gymnastics, and her love for muddling through expansive feelings, she favors the textures that large shapes with intentional flow can create together when conveying a story within her work. When Brittany isn't dancing she is a mom to almost one year old Ava, and enjoys sushi nights with her seafood- wary partner Nick.
Krissy Corrigan
Associate Director
As Associate Director, Krissy is an extension of Brittany to help carry out our mission for Coalescence. Season schedule planning, conceptualizing pieces, choreographing, fundraising, event planning, coming up with new ideas to support our overall vision; the description of what she does doesn't stop there. Their strengths and weaknesses balance each other out seamlessly and truly allow them to create a cohesive vision for the company.
Coalescence came into Krissy's life through taking Brittany's contemporary and lyrical classes at Westlake Dance Center. When Brittany approached her to help start this company, it seemed to be a perfect fit for what she was looking for in a dance community; providing opportunities to keep performing without sacrificing her full-time job commitments. Helping grow and lead this talented company continues to be an honor and humbling experience and she can't wait to continue to see where we go.
Outside of Coalescence, Krissy is a Project Executive at McKinstry Co managing strategic client accounts, multi-million-dollar projects, and sales for our mechanical new construction department. With a high-stress career at times, dance has always been her release, artistic outlet, and way to remain grounded in who she is.
Her favorite role in life is being a mom to two amazing little boys and wife to her incredible husband.
Gemilla Dacanay
Operations Manager
Gemilla began dance at Pacific Northwest Ballet at age 7. When the next level at PNB conflicted too much with her gymnastics training, she decided to take a break from ballet, knowing that she would still be able to express herself to music in her floor exercise routines. Her experience as a competitive gymnast took her to La Serena, Chile, where she represented the U.S. in a mixed doubles international competition.
Many years and injuries later, Gemilla’s desire to dance was too strong to resist, and she took a year and a half to experience ballroom dancing before her dance journey brought her to Westlake Dance Center in the spring of 2013. It was there that she began to more deeply explore movement in jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and dabbled a bit in some hip hop-based movement here and there. A short while later, Gemilla became a founding member of WDC’s adult performing group, Black Floor Collective and stayed on through its second season. In addition to igniting a passion for performance and expression, dance continuously proves to be a powerful form of therapy for her.
Gemilla is thrilled to be part of this dance family--as Operations Manager--and she is always excited to share the stage with all of the incredible talent and high-quality humans that make up Coalescence Dance Company. "I am just so very proud to be part of this dance company. Brittany and all her co-choreographers know how to put together a cast and how to use every dancer's strengths to captivate audiences with the stories we tell."
When she is not dancing or working as a Senior Business Systems Analyst, you might find Gemilla with her son, Julian, attempting to finally break 200 at the bowling alley, singing karaoke on a local stage in between games of pool, at home trying to match the energy of her fox red labrador, Peanut… or on the water with fellow Coalescence dancers and their stand-up paddle boards!
